Hy Mariampolski, Ph.D.,Managing Director
Hy Mariampolski, QualiData’s founder, is a product innovation and brand consultant and a marketing research methods expert. Dr. Hy works with such multinational companies as Barilla, Board Bia/Irish Food Board, Citibank, GlaxoSmithKline, Georgia-Pacific, Givaudan Flavors Corp., KPMG, LG, Looxcie, and Motorola, among others.
Hy’s Ph.D. training combined community sociology, social psychology and cultural anthropology. Widely respected as a marketing educator, he is a frequent keynoter, session speaker and workshop leader at national and international conferences. Throughout his career, Dr. Hy has been training members of the global marketing community about novel methods and best practices for the conduct of qualitative marketing research.
A pioneer in the marketing application of ethnographic methods, Dr. Hy is the author of two popular best practices handbooks Ethnography for Marketers: A Guide to Consumer Immersion and Qualitative Market Research: A Comprehensive Guide.
His voluntary work includes serving on the Dean’s Advisory Council at the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University and the Board of Advisors of the Masters of Market Research program at the University of Georgia. Dr. Hy also developed and leads ESOMAR’s Ethnography and Observational research two-day workshops at ESOMAR conferences worldwide. He is also a founder, served on the Board of Directors and is a past president of the Qualitative Research Consultants Association (QRCA).
Hy Mariampolski has been elected as a member of the Market Research Council, an honorary association of market research professionals. In 2007, he was named a Distinguished Alumnus of Purdue University. He earned a Ph.D. in sociology from Purdue University and holds a B.A. from the City College of the City University of New York.
Dr. Hy is available for interviews and media appearances about marketing methods, strategies and emerging trends. Hy and Sharon recently discussed the benefits of consumer immersion for sparking new product ideas during appearances on Canadian Broadcasting Company’s Doc Zone program. He has also appeared on FOX-NEWS and ABC-TV feature programs where he explained approaches for understanding consumer behavior.
Sharon Wolf, M.A., M.S.,Managing Director
Sharon is a seasoned marketing consultant who uses research-based insights to formulate brand, communications and new product strategies for corporations and leading arts and culture venues.
Her category experience spans household products to cosmetics and beauty, to financial and professional services to mobile communications.
She has guided product innovation and brand communications strategies for such premiere global brands as Armani, BBDO, CIBAVision, Dow Chemical, Georgia-Pacific, illy, Nokia, Symrise, and Turner Broadcasting, among others.
During the course of her career, Sharon has immersed with people from every walk of life – from rehabilitated drug addict moms, to optometrists to teens to CFOs and CEOs. She also enjoys delving into the semiotic meaning of diverse product categories for the purpose of improving our clients’ branding and product marketing.
As a result of her reputation as a Marcom expert, Sharon was recruited by the QRCA Board of Directors to transform the association’s newsletter, QRCA Views into a full color, advertiser-sponsored quarterly magazine. She accepted the challenge and proceeded to build an award-winning magazine that was produced by a 12-person voluntary editorial team and scores of marketing practitioner-authors. Three years after the launch of Views, QRCA awarded Sharon Wolf the President’s Award in recognition of her contributions to the magazine’s success as a membership benefit
Sharon earned a M.A. in Literature from Purdue University and a M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Kansas State University. She holds a B.A. from the City College of the City University of New York.
Renate Reimann, Ph.D.,Senior Associate
Senior Associate Renate Reimann, Ph.D., is a sociologist by training with extensive experience producing high-level marketing analysis. She is adept at exploring consumer behavior using in-depth interviewing, group facilitation and/or ethnographic methods. Her client industry experience during the past 10 years includes managing QualiData’s studies across industries: financial services (KPMG), consumer products (Georgia-Pacific. L’Oreal), health care (GSK and CIBA VISION), home appliances (LG); B2B (Thomas Publishing) as well as organizational development (Dow Chemical).
Born in Germany, Renate is bi-cultural and bi-lingual in German and English. She earned her Ph.D in sociology from The City University of New York with a specialization in qualitative research methods.
Renate is a published author of books and scholarly articles based on a series of qualitative in-depth, in-home life history interviews conducted among lesbians and their families. Her book, Queer Families, Queer Politics (Columbia University Press) is based on findings from this study.
Renate also holds a Certificate in Personal and Life Coaching from New York University. She uses her coaching skills when conducting market research as well as when coaching corporate teams and individuals. Founder of Fresh Life Coaching, Renate’s most recent publication is an audio-book titled, Move Beyond Procrastination and Get Things Done!
Liz Vasile, Ph.D.,Senior Associate
Liz has worked with QualiData for the past 8 years as an ethnographer and trend spotter for such clients as L’Oreal, GSK, Nivea, LG Electronics, Bayer-Environmental Science, Dow Chemical, and Centex Homes. She recently presented a keynote address on the impact of the global green movement on home gardening trends at Bayer-Environmental Science’s International Senior Management meeting.
Liz received her Ph.D. in cultural geography from the University of California-Berkeley where she also held a Fulbright Fellowship for field research in Tunisia. Her work in Tunisia explored needs for financial services among low-income people. Liz is fluent in Spanish and French and is conversant in Arabic.
Ron Littke, BASenior Associate
Ron Littke is a QualiData Senior Associate in charge of custom videography QualiData’s ethnographic in-home visits, street intercepts, retail ethnography, focus groups and client workshops.
Ron also collaborates with Sharon to edit and produce Key Findings Videos and Day-in-the Life Videos for our clients’ and their senior management. Consumers or business executives are typically the stars of these fully narrated, stand-alone productions. Our video reports give top management a chance to see and hear the voices of their customers, adding a real-life dimension to the study’s findings and strategy recommendations.
When not in the field with QualiData, Ron works as an artist specializing in filmmaking, radio productions, performance art and playwriting. He has performed his works at the Franklin Furnace, P.S. 122, the Performing Garage, and at dozens of venues in New York City and around the country. He also works as an artist-in-residence in schools in New York and on the west coast. A native of Seattle, WA, Ron earned a B.A. from Western Washington University where he majored in theater.
